Parish and Church Community in Derby

Our parish:

The first place of worship in Derby is linked to Dr Dimitrije Najdanović, who founded the parish in 1952 and served as its first priest until June 1960. A parish council meeting was held on 5 October 1952, when representatives were appointed for towns across the west of the Midlands. Services were held in British churches, sometimes only in the afternoon, whenever a space was free.

In 1953 wives and children arrived from Yugoslavia, and church life took on new strength. As early as 1955 a campaign began for the building of a chapel and a hall. The church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul was bought from the Church of England in 1978, and the church of the Holy Great Martyr George in Leicester in 1983. In Donington a chapel of St Nicholas was adapted from a warehouse and consecrated by Bishop Lavrentije in May 1975. Services were also held once a month in Stoke-on-Trent, in a borrowed Anglican church.

Many priests have served the parish over the years, among them Milenko Zebić, Vojislav Malučkov, Hegumen Serafim Skuratov, Syncellus Georgije Đokić, later Bishop of Canada, Radomir Aćimović and Slobodan Radojčić. Today the parish priest is Archpriest Boris Medak, since July 2016. The church has a Circle of Serbian Sisters, founded in 1967, and two more circles and folk groups in the area.
